It’s an opportunity to make an impact. As part of the Hartwood team, you’ll support critical missions, strengthen operations, and help deliver solutions that matter to our clients and communities. This position is located on-site at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), Parris Island, SC. The Tailor is responsible for performing high-quality alterations, repairs, and custom fittings on U.S. Marine Corps uniforms and garments to ensure each item meets strict military appearance and dress standards. This role requires advanced sewing skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with uniform construction and Marine Corps regulations. The Tailor works closely with fitters, sewing machine operators, and supervisors to ensure uniforms are completed accurately and delivered on time to support the operational readiness and professional presentation of USMC personnel. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform complex garment alterations including tapering, hemming, taking in/out seams, and resizing uniforms to achieve proper fit and compliance with USMC standards. Tailor dress uniforms, service coats, trousers, skirts, blouses, and other military-specific garments according to individual measurements and uniform regulations. Attach, adjust, or relocate patches, rank insignia, name tapes, buttons, and stripes with precision. Conduct fittings and provide expert recommendations to Marines on alterations needed for uniform compliance. Execute hand-sewing techniques for detailed work where machine use is not appropriate. Review alteration tickets, measurement sheets, and work orders to ensure all tasks are clearly understood and completed accurately. Collaborate with sewing machine operators, rippers, and customer service staff to maintain a steady production flow. Inspect finished garments for quality, proper fit, and regulation adherence prior to final delivery. Maintain and care for tailoring tools, including shears, chalk, needles, and pressing equipment. Ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with facility and base regulations. Follow all safety protocols, equipment procedures, and Marine Corps uniform regulations. Report equipment issues, operational delays, or material shortages to supervisory staff in a timely manner. Provide professional, courteous, and timely customer service to U.S. Marine Corps personnel, ensuring all inquiries, concerns, and special garment requests are handled with accuracy, discretion, and a commitment to excellence. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GED required, completion of formal tailoring or fashion program. Minimum 2 years of experience as a tailor in a professional or military setting. Gram preferred. Proficiency in hand and machine sewing techniques, pattern adjustments, and garment construction. Strong knowledge of military uniform standards, particularly those related to USMC dress codes. Excellent attention to detail, craftsmanship, and time management. Ability to communicate effectively and work with diverse teams and military personnel. Must be eligible to work on military installation and pass background checks required by the Department of Defense. Must be able to meet security requirements and work on a U.S. military installation. Willingness to learn, cross‑train and become knowledgeable in other functional areas. WORKING ENVIRONMENT Indoor tailoring and fitting environment with access to sewing machines, ironing stations, and fitting rooms. Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, bending, and use of hands and fingers. Fast‑paced, detail‑oriented environment with peak workloads during ceremonial and seasonal uniform updates. Must adhere to base access protocols and security policies. Structured and regulated setting with strict quality and delivery standards in support of U.S. Marine Corps operational needs. #J-18808-Ljbffr
