The role focuses on integrating information literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship into curriculum and instruction; ensuring equitable access to high-quality print and digital resources; and promoting reading, inquiry, and lifelong learning. Working collaboratively with educators, administrators, and the Library Assistant, the Librarian advances student achievement, college and career readiness, and school improvement priorities through instructional support, responsible use of information and technology, and continuous program improvement. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Program Leadership & Operations Manage daily operations of the library and associated learning spaces Develop and implement library services aligned with school & district improvement goals Prepare and manage the library budget; recommend purchases and resource allocations Establish and implement library policies, procedures, and circulation systems Supervise and train assigned staff, student assistants, and/or volunteers Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive library environment Promote library programs and resources through schoolwide communications and initiatives Instructional Partnership & Curriculum Support Collaborate with academic and vocational staff to support instruction, research, inquiry-based learning, and assessments Serve as an instructional partner integrating information literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship across disciplines and career pathways Provide instruction to individuals, small groups, and classes in research and inquiry skills; information, digital, and media literacy; and ethical use of information, including citation and copyright Support schoolwide literacy initiatives and promote a culture of reading and lifelong learning Digital Literacy & Resource Management Curate, evaluate, and manage print and digital resources aligned with curricula, vocational frameworks, and industry standards Support effective and responsible use of technology, databases, and instructional media Collaborate with instructional staff and the Director of Technology to support DESE-aligned technology and media literacy expectations Equity, Access & Community Engagement Ensure equitable access to high-quality instructional resources for all students Maintain a diverse, inclusive, and culturally responsive collection Promote reading for academic success, career readiness, and personal enrichment Professional Collaboration & Growth Support educator professional learning through instructional resources and research support Provide orientation and support for new staff Participate in professional development and relevant professional organizations Program Evaluation & Engagement Use data to monitor library usage and instructional impact Support programs and events that strengthen student engagement and school-community connections Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent-Director WORK ENVIRONMENT May be exposed to low-level ultraviolet light emitted from computer monitors, copying equipment, and related office technology May be exposed to chemicals associated with copying equipment, printers, and standard office supplies Ability to lift, move, and set up library and technology-related equipment, including computers, peripherals, and related materials Ability to manage library operations, including shelving, inventory management, organization of materials, and routine physical tasks associated with library maintenance Occasional public speaking may be required for professional development, presentations, meetings, or school and community events Ability to work flexibly to support instructional needs, library programming, and special events Ability to work flexibly to lead and support classroom instruction, special events, and school programs TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Ten‑month school year position (183 days) Initial salary will be established by the Superintendent‑Director in accordance with the Teachers’ Contract Fringe benefits as outlined in the Teachers’ Contract EVALUATION As per the Teachers’ Contract. District Title IX Compliance Coordinator: Victoria Zarozinski, (978) 345-9200 x5237 Job Requirements Required Qualifications Massachusetts DESE licensure as a Library Teacher or eligibility to obtain appropriate licensure Experience teaching AP Research preferred Knowledge of the AASL National School Library Standards and Massachusetts DESE curriculum frameworks Experience collaborating with educators to support curriculum, instruction, and student learning Strong understanding of information literacy, research practices, digital citizenship, and ethical use of information Ability to effectively support diverse learners, including students with disabilities and English learners Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to meet the evolving needs of the school community Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent-Director may deem appropriate and acceptable Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Library Science, Library and Information Science, Instructional Technology, and/or a related field Experience in a secondary school setting, preferably vocational/technical or career‑focused Experience teaching research and information literacy skills Knowledge of Massachusetts CVTE frameworks, project‑based learning, and workforce readiness skills Experience with library management systems, digital databases, and instructional technologies Experience designing and delivering professional development for educators Reports to: Director of Academic Programs At least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
