JOB TITLE:Director of Special Education (Elementary/Secondary)

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:Full Time; 205 Day Contract
SALARY: Based on Degree and Years of Experience
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master's degree with a valid Oklahoma elementary or secondary certificate; standard Oklahoma teaching certificate, Administrative certificate.
Experience: Minimum 5 years as Classroom Teacher; Minimum 3 years as a Special Education Department Head. Administrative experience preferred.
Skills: Computer literate; Excellent written and oral communication ability;
Expertise in Oklahoma State Department of Education regulations related to special education; Ability to interpret and implement special education laws, policies and procedures in order to maintain compliance with local, state and federal guidelines.
SUMMARY:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to the position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.
1. Through the special education department, oversee compliance related to state and federal regulations related to special education.
2.Provide instruction, guidance, and accountability, related to special education compliance for special education teachers, Speech language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Transportation, Vision Impairment, Deaf/Hard of Hearing specialists, and Medicaid billing for grades PK-12.
3. Through special education department, effectively and accurately complete state reporting related to special education compliance to include, but not limited to, District Data Profile, Discipline Report, Child Find Report, Sooner Start and ECC Outcomes, End of Year Report, Indicator Tool Kits, and other reporting/compliance requirements as needed or requested.
4. Through the special education department, oversee and provide accountability for instruction and assessment for all special education programs grades PK-12.
5. Responsible for caseload management and student numbers for Speech Language Pathologists, Certified School Psychologists, and Special Education Teachers grades PK-12.
6. Works with appropriate team members on student placement for Levels 2, 3, and 4 for students in grades PK-12.
7. Provides site and parental support as requested/needed related to IEP compliance at staffing and IEP meetings for all sites and students grades PK-12.
8. Organizes and supervises Extended School Year services annually.
9. Provide supervision and support for Certified School Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, Instructional Specialists, Vision and Deaf/Hard of hearing specialist, and other special education personnel as needed.
10. Serve as the liaison for Sooner Start and other partner agencies to ensure successful student transitions to school.
11. Provide support for parental concerns through communication with parents and site personnel related to the adherence to special education compliance for grades PK-12.
12. Organize and conduct meetings on an annual basis to provide a mechanism for smooth transitions between grades for students in grades PK-12. Ensure timely communication is received by all sites and other relevant personnel.
13. Develop and organize an efficient and accurate system for tracking students numbers in grades PK-12 to be used throughout the year in planning.

ATTENDANCE STATEMENT:
Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Inside working conditions with no extreme environmental conditions.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit at a desk or in meetings for long periods; travel to school sites; and using keyboarding skills, work on a computer for long periods.
