Company Description

La Rabida Children’s Hospital provides specialized, family-centered health care to children with medically complex conditions, disabilities, and chronic illness. Through expertise, compassion, and advocacy we help children and their families reach their fullest potential, regardless of their ability to pay.

Our not-for-profit hospital, licensed for 49 beds, helps transition children from neonatal or pediatric intensive care to home, by providing medical, rehabilitative and developmental care, and by training families to continue treatments and manage the necessary equipment in the home. La Rabida also provides extensive rehabilitation for those recovering from wounds or burns and treatment for exacerbations of chronic conditions.

The hospital’s enhanced pediatric patient-centered medical home provides primary care to children with complex medical conditions and their siblings. Children with medical homes elsewhere come to La Rabida for specialty services. La Rabida offers a wide range of specialty services provided to children with sickle cell disease, diabetes, and many others. Children are supported in their emotional and developmental growth, particularly in cases where such growth has been interrupted by accident or disease.

Finally, La Rabida provides forensic and treatment services for children exposed to abuse and neglect, comprehensive assessments for youth in care, early intervention for children between 0 and 3 years of age. Care coordination services for medically complex children are also provided for those who are covered by a health plan and receive care from providers in Cook County

Clean fixtures, sinks, toilets, and tubs, and empty and clean waste containers; replace liners, high dust i.e., vents, clocks, tops of doors, door frames, make beds with clean linen. Upload linen data into the hospital laundry computer. Cleaning in-house linen. Environmental Services Specialist I/Linen Aide (For the individual who’s primary responsibility is Linen Aide, the percentage for this function is 90%. The remaining 10% will be comprised of all other essential functions)

Patient Room

• Clean furniture: beds, cribs, mattress, bed side table, over bed table, chairs, sofa, TV, telephone, cabinets, equipment, and patient wardrobes using disinfectant or all-purpose cleaner
• Dust mop and wet mop floors and baseboards and change mop water per 3 rooms. Isolation - change
• Mop water and mop heads; dispose of all rags
• Empty and clean waste container and replace liner
• High dust: top of door, doorframe, ceiling vent, and above lights (using the high duster stick)
• Clean fixtures: sink, mirror, pipe fixtures
• Clean door glass, windows, windowsills, and blinds using glass cleaner
• Replenish soap dispenser, towel dispenser as needed

Bathrooms: staff, patient, public

• Dust mop and wet mop floors and baseboards using disinfectant or all-purpose cleaner
• Wash walls/fixtures, light covering, pipe fixtures, holder bar, baby changing station  
• Replenish soap dispenser, paper towel dispenser, toilet paper dispenser, and baby wipes
• Clean windows, windowsills, and blinds
• Change shower curtain
• Empty and clean waste container and replace liner
• High dust top of door, doorframe, ceiling vent, and above lights

Nurse’s station/medication room

• Dust mop and wet mop floors and baseboards using disinfectant or all-purpose cleaner
• Spot wash walls
• Clean sink, cabinets, counter tops
• Clean refrigerator
• Clean chairs, telephones
• Empty and clean waste container and replace liner
• High dust top of cabinets, vents, clocks

Nurse lounge/locker room/bathroom (all bathrooms are cleaned in the same way, and locker rooms are cleaned the same as bathroom)

• Vacuum carpet and furniture
• High dust door, doorframe, vent, clock, top of lockers
• Clean refrigerator
• Clean counter top and cabinet
• Dust mop and wet mop floor, baseboards
• Empty and clean waste container and replace liner
• Dust furniture
• Spot wash walls

Resident’s room

• Change bed linen
• Vacuum carpet
• Spot wash windows and windowsills
• Empty and clean waste containers and replace liner
• High dust door, door frame, vent
• Dust furniture, baseboard, blinds

Soil Utility Rooms

• Dust mop and wet mop floor and baseboard
• Spot wash walls
• Clean counter top, sink, and cabinet
• High dust door and frame
• Clean fixtures and pipes
• Replenish soap dispenser, paper towel dispenser

Offices

• Vacuum carpet and furniture
• Dust furniture, blinds
• Wash windows and sills
• High dust vents, clock, door/door frame, cabinets, fixtures
• Dust mop and wet mop floor and baseboard
• Empty and clean waste containers and replace liners
• Dispose of trash and separate biohazard waste
• Spot wash walls with cleaning solution

Meeting rooms/conference rooms

• Vacuum carpet and furniture
• Dust furniture, baseboards and blinds
• High dust vents, clock, door/door frame, cabinets
• Spot wash windows and windowsills
• Spot wash walls
• Empty and clean waste container and replace liner
• Clean bulletin boards

Playrooms

• Dust furniture and baseboards
• High dust vents, clock, door and door frames
• Wash windows and sills
• Spot wash walls
• Empty and wash waste container and replace liner – dispose of trash. Separate bio waste.

Kitchens

• Dust mop and wet mop floor, baseboards
• Spot wash walls
• High dust vent door, doorframes
• Clean sink, counter top and cabinet
• Empty and clean waste container and replace liner
• Dispose of trash and separate biohazard waste
• Defrost and clean refrigerator monthly and wipe daily

Lobby waiting area and Admitting

• Vacuum carpet
• High dust door, doorframe, vent clocks, baseboards
• Spot wash walls
• Clean countertop, desk panel, and fire alarm display panel
• Empty and clean waste container and replace liner
• Dispose of trash and separate biohazard waste

Labs/SPD/OP Clinic/ER/Rehab

• Dust mop and wet mop floors, baseboards
• Spot wash walls
• High dust vent, door/ doorframe, and cabinets
• Clean sink and pipe fixture using cream cleanser
• Empty and clean waste containers and replace liner
• Clean telephones, chairs, furniture
• Replenish soap dispenser, paper towel dispenser
• Dust blinds
• Change and replace sharp container
• Spot wash windows and windowsills

Snack bar

• Dust mop and wet mop floors, baseboards
• Dust blinds
• Wash furniture, counter top
• Empty and clean waste container and replace liner
• Vacuum carpet
• High dust door/doorframe, clock, wall fixtures, vending machine
• Spot wash windows and windowsills
• Clean microwave daily (1st & 2nd Shift)

Linen

• Receive clean linen carts, inspects for accuracy, prepares for distribution
• Pull linen chute-prepare outgoing soiled linen carts
• Check units for soiled linen (children's clothing)
• Prepare lab coats and table for pick up
• Return clean clothing to designated area
• Clean and disinfect cart
• Replenish clean linen on the units
• Check the linen inventory order as necessary
• Clean all areas pertaining to the laundry and inspect equipment for cleanliness and proper working order
• Empty trash and replace liner

  Corridors

• Spot wash walls
• Wash doors, wall fixtures, handrails, fire extinguisher, peepholes  

• High school diploma or G.E.D preferred
• Prefer two to three years experience in health care environmental service / linen work    
• Required to read, write, and speak English
