Employment Law Attorney
Title: Employment Law Attorney
Location: Hybrid - Chicago, IL
Compensation: $125K-$225K
Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Employment Law Attorney to provide strategic legal counsel and representation in employment and labor matters. The successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload of litigation and advisory matters, counsel clients on compliance and risk mitigation, and advocate for clients in courts and administrative agencies. This role requires strong litigation skills, practical knowledge of labor and employment laws, and the ability to build trusted client relationships.
Key Responsibilities - Represent employers and employees in employment-related litigation, including discrimination, wage and hour, wrongful termination, retaliation, and collective bargaining disputes.
- Draft and file pleadings, motions, discovery, settlement agreements, and other court and administrative documents with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Conduct investigations into workplace complaints, prepare investigative reports, and recommend remedial actions or policies to minimize legal risk.
- Advise clients on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g., FLSA, ADA, FMLA, Title VII, NLRA) and draft employment policies, employee handbooks, severance agreements, and contracts.
- Negotiate settlements, mediate disputes, and manage alternative dispute resolution processes to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.
- Develop case strategy, perform legal research and analysis, and prepare persuasive written and oral arguments for hearings, trials, and administrative proceedings.
- Collaborate with HR professionals and in-house counsel to provide preventative counseling, training sessions, and workplace compliance guidance.
- Manage client relationships and expectations, maintain timely communication, and ensure high client satisfaction and ethical standards.
- Maintain accurate case and billing records, meet firm deadlines, and contribute to business development efforts including client pitches and presentations.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to practice in Illinois
- 6+ years of experience practicing employment and labor law, with significant litigation experience in state and federal courts and administrative agencies.
- Proven courtroom experience, including trials, hearings, and depositions; strong litigation and advocacy skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of labor law and collective bargaining matters, including experience with NLRA and union negotiations preferred.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills with the ability to draft clear, persuasive legal documents.
- Strong negotiation, mediation, and client counseling skills with the ability to manage multiple matters and priorities independently.
- Professional demeanor, strong ethics, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Willingness to travel to court appearances and client meetings as required.
