Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Safely operate cremation equipment, such as retorts (cremation chambers) and grinders (cremulators), to reduce remains to ash, ensuring compliance with state, federal, and environmental regulations.
• Verify identity, maintain strict chain of custody, and complete necessary documentation for each case.
• Transport remains, place them into the cremation chamber, and remove personal items if necessary.
• Clean and perform routine maintenance on crematory equipment and facilities to ensure proper functionality.
• Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to strict safety protocols.
• Maintain detailed records of each cremation process, including documentation of procedures, identification tags, and disposal logs.
• Support funeral directing staff by coordinating logistics related to the cremation process when necessary.

Experience

• Mechanical knowledge or experience working with industrial or cremation equipment is preferred.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and comfortability.
• Strong attention to detail, emotional stability, and technical aptitude for machinery.
• Familiarity with funeral service procedures or experience in a funeral home setting is a plus.
